[Classes 79 (iii) and 136 (i)] A front or rear end construction for a motor vehicle comprises a frame on which the wings or mudguards and bonnet flaps and parts completing the engine cover are mounted so that the whole comprises a unit which is removably attached to the vehicle body frame or chassis. The bonnet flaps 1, mudguards 2 and radiator cowling or grid 3 are all mounted on a frame 4, Fig. 2, comprising front and rear transverse supporting members 6, 7, connected by a central longitudinal bar 8 at the top and a pair of longitudinal side members 9 at the bottom. The bonnet flaps may be hinged about a longitudinal central member secured at its ends to the bar 8 or may comprise two hinged or removable side panels and a hinged or removable top panel. The bar 8 being, in this case, replaced by two or more upper longitudinal members supporting such panels. The mudguards may be attached by bolts, rivets, &c. or by welding to brackets 13 extending from the side members 9. Lamps and other accessories may be mounted on the assembled unit and electric cables therefor may be plugged into dashboard switches &c. The unit may be secured to the chassis frame 5 by two rear bolts 10 and a bolt at the centre 11 of the front transverse member 6, the bolts 10 being of considerable length so that their heads are easily accessible. The bolts may be fixed to the vehicle frame and the unit placed thereon or, as shown, the bolts 10 may be mounted in brackets 33 on the side members 9, the threaded ends passing through flanges 15 on the bottom edges of the side members and engaging tapped sockets in the frame members 5 or in blocks 16 attached thereto. Surrounding each bolt end and entering a recess provided therefor in the tapped frame part is an annular member 18 of rubber, metal or other material attached to the flange 15 and which serves as a foot to support the unit when removed. from the vehicle and placed on the ground. Feet 19 may also be provided at other points and fixed or pivoted blocks 22 at the rear end of the frame serve as supports when the unit is rested on its end for cleaning &c. Felt pads 20 may be interposed at attachment points &c. Detachable eyelets 12 may be provided to facilitate removal by lifting tackle as indicated in Fig. 1. The unit may be reinforced by angle irons &c. or by bending the edges, corrugating the panels, &c. and may be painted or coated with fabric.
