[Class 55 (ii)] In tower scrubbers in which gas passes up in counter-current to liquid comprising sets of troughs 14, 20 for liquid arranged one above another so that adjacent sets extend transversely one to another and the lowest set extends transversely to vertical packing laths 24. each trough having outlets delivering liquid in streams to the trough beneath, the outlets 16, 22 are arranged in side walls of the troughs and drip sills 18, 23 at or near the bottoms of the side walls of each trough are spaced to correspond with the spacing of the lower transverse troughs 20 ; the sills 23 on the lowermost troughs 20 correspond with the laths 24. The outlets are formed by notches 22 or by holes 16 at the same level in the side walls, and the sills 18, 23 are formed by continuing .said sides downwards and shaping them to form projections 18, one below each hole 16 and immediately above each of the lower troughs 20. Notches 22, 23 are formed in the sides of the lowest troughs 20. The troughs of the top set are supplied with liquid each from separate pipes 12 extending into an upper tank 10 supplied by a float -controlled valve, the pipes having weir slots 13 all at the same level. The troughs may have transverse partitions 19. A vent pipe 9 maintains equal pressure in the tank 10 and in the tower.
