Abstract

487,061. Drawing wire ; clutches. COTTY, A. Dec. 16, 1936, No. 34646. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1935. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXIV] A wire-drawing machine is driven by an electric motor, a contactor such as a mercury switch 9 being associated with the die-holder 1 which is so mounted for pivotal or other movement that the switch is moved to open the circuit upon breakage of the wire, a second contactor 13 being associated with the lever 10 for operating the clutch of the drawing-drum so as to be open when the clutch is engaged and closed when the drum is declutched, the two contactors being in shunt relation to each other and in series in the circuit, and being so arranged that on movement of the clutch-operating member to the clutching position, but prior to the opening of the circuit by the second contactor, the tension in the wire brings the first contactor to circuit - closing position. The circuits associated with the respective drums of a multiple wire-drawing machine are arranged in series in the circuit which is completed through the first contactors of die-holders which are moved forwardly by the tension of the wire, and through the second contactors of drums which are unclutched. Upon breakage of the wire, it is necessary for the corresponding drum to be unclutched before the circuit can be completed. A clutch, actuated by the lever 10, comprises a coil spring 20 surrounding a sleeve keyed to the drum shaft 16 and secured at its lower end to a member 24 integral with a driven gear. The spring is tightened to drive the drum by depression of a member 15 which engages a roller 17 on a lever 18 which is pivoted at 19 to the end of the spring 20 and engages an abutment 25 on the member 24 through an adjustable screw 32. Die-holders ; lubricating.-The pivoted dieholder support 3 is urged against a stop 8 under tension of the wire, but is moved against an adjustable stop 7 by a spring 5 on breakage of the wire. A soap box 2 carries the dieholder 1.
