Abstract

Sulphonamide compounds of therapeutic value are prepared by condensing p-acylaminobenzene-sulphonyl halides with (a) monoacylphenylenediamines or their nuclear-substituted derivatives, or with (b) monoalkyl-, monoaryl-or dialkyl-phenylenediamines or their nuclear substituted derivatives, and if desired, hydrolyzing the products. The nuclear substituents may be methyl, hydroxyl, amino, nitro, carboxyl and chloro groups. Examples are given of the interaction of p-acetylaminobenzene-sulphonyl chloride with (1) p-amino-acetanilide; (2) 2 : 4-diacetylamino-aniline; (3) 5-amino-2-acetylaminophenol; (4) 4-amino-2-methylacetanilide; (5) 4-aminodiphenylamine; and (6) 4-amino-dimethylaniline, followed in each case by the elimination of the acetyl groups by hydrolysis. The Provisional Specification also describes the use of nuclear derivatives of p-acylaminobenzene-sulphonyl halides.
