Abstract

486,392. Mould opening and closing apparatus. TEDESCHI, E., and SEGRE, M. Oct. 22, 1937, No. 28915. [Class 87 (ii)] Relates to machines for moulding thermoplastic materials in which the material is maintained under pressure in the mould until it has cooled or consolidated, and consists in means for removing and applying self-retaining pressure-producing covers to moulds that form part of the machine. As shown, moulds having screw covers are arranged in a circle in a work table 1. The covers are rotated to open or close the moulds by a rotating member 4 adapted to be lowered by a hand lever 5 into contact with a cover. The member 4 is mounted in a hollow member 2 rotatable about the centre of the mould circle. The member 4 may be driven by reversible gearing or by a handle 13. In some cases, more than one coverengaging member 4 may be employed, one being adapted to remove a cover, while another separated angularly by at least one mould space is used to apply a cover. Friction clutches, drive-disengaging mechanism, or electromagnetic devices may be interposed between the driving-mechanism and the cover to limit the maximum torque applied to the cover. and hence, the maximum pressure applied to the material in the mould.
