Abstract

486,071. Wireless receiving-apparatus. COLE, Ltd., E. K. (Aga-Baltic Radio Aktiebolag) Sept. 8, 1937, No. 24467. [Class 40 (v)] A superheterodyne receiver with automatic fine tuning comprises an oscillator operating at the true intermediate frequency and means for deriving oscillations of approximately constant amplitude from the intermediate frequency amplifier ; the two oscillations being combined and rectified ; any variation in frequency resulting in a control voltage which is utilized in known manner. The radio-frequency amplifier 10 is followed by the frequency changer 12 and intermediate frequency amplifiers 16, 19, and the local oscillator 13 includes fine adjusting means controlled by potentials over conductor 15. A detector arrangement 23 is fed with voltages of true intermediate frequency from oscillator 24 and voltages of actual intermediate frequency derived from 16 through a limiter amplifier 25. When these two voltages are in phase quadrature it is arranged that the rectified voltage produced by diode 42 across resistance 43 is neutralized by the voltage derived from potentiometer 44, no control potential being applied to conductor 15. A departure from this phase relationship due to the intermediate frequency departing from its correct value results in a positive or negative potential being applied to correct the tuning. Muting of the receiver during tuning is obtained by means of diode 45. Voltages from oscillator 24 and from a point in the output of amplifier 25 which are in phase opposition when tuning is correct, are applied to the diode 45 and with correct dimensioning of condenser 46 no voltage appears across resistance 47 at correct tuning. When tuning is incorrect, however, the beat tones produced are rectified and when the resultant voltage which is passed by filter 48, 49 reaches a certain value, the intermediate frequency amplifier 19 is blocked by this voltage in known manner.
