Abstract

485,821. R÷ntgen - ray diaphragms. OTVOS, E. Aug. 4, 1937, No. 21485. Convention date, Jan. 7. [Class 98 (i)] A Bucky grid for screening out secondary rays is provided with a pair of parallel toothed racks engaged alternately by a driven toothed segment so that it is reciprocated with uniform speed in opposite directions, and the direction of its movement at each end of its path is reversed so suddenly that undesired shadow lines are not produced. A second grid, parallel with the first, may be coupled to the first grid so that the two grids move with equal speed but in opposite directions. As shown, a grid 2 carries a fixed rack 6 and a rack 7 supported on a laminated spring 5. Meshing alternately with the racks is a continuously-driven toothed segment 8 preferably of such angle that it begins to engage one rack just before it has completely disengaged from the other. When a second grid 1 also is used, reverse movement is communicated to it from grid 2 by rack and pinion gear 3, 4.
