[Class 98 (ii)] In a process for producing subtractive multicolour picture films, intaglio depressions are formed in the surfaces of metallic strips corresponding to colour separation records of the original without the use of any line or other screen, each strip is inked in one of the complementary colours and prints are made from these on a common transparent flexible strip. The originals may be prepared as three separate images, e.g. by means of a camera of split-beam type or on tripack material, or a single film consisting of three layers containing colour record images may be used. The separate images may be printed onto a lightsensitive layer, e.g. of bichromated fish-glue and gelatin or a silver salt emulsion, on a metallic strip, e.g. of burnished copper. Alternatively, the print may be made on carbon tissue and transferred to the copper strip. Where three-layer material having images in colour is used, printing may be effected by coloured lights or the use of filters. To ensure accurate registration in printing, register lines are printed on the receptive surface and on the printing strip for use with a photo-electric cell connected to means for effecting relative adjustment of the surfaces. The printing may be performed on celluloid or cellulose acetate strip in turquoise blue, yellow, and magenta inks.
