Abstract
A mixture of methylene chloride with ethylene glycol n-butyl ether is used as a contact poison for insects or as a fumigant. Additional ingredients may be solid insecticides, such as paradichlorbenzene or chlorinated naphthalenes, plant extracts such as pyrethrum or rotenon, or fumigants such as ethylene oxide, hydrocyanic acid or sulphur dioxide. The preparations may be used for fumigating rooms, treating cereals, furs, carpets or the like, or, when containing solid ingredients for impregnating wooden beams. Known solvents consisting of mixtures of methylene chloride with butyl alcohol, butyl acetate, butyl pyruvate and butyl citrate are referred to. The Provisional Specification relates also to the use of single butyl derivatives boiling between 100 and 200 DEG C. or mixtures of two such derivatives, with or without the addition of liquids of low boiling point such as methylene chloride. Examples being methoxy butyl acetate, butyl lactate, methyl isobutyl ketone, butyl alcohol, butyl acetate and butyl ether. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 302,390, 313,133, and 315,279, [all in Class 95].
