Abstract

480,733. Coin-freed article-delivering apparatus. BAUDUIN, A. Feb. 23, 1937, No. 5467. Convention date, April 3, 1936. [Class 27] [Also in Group XV] In a combined coin-freed article-delivering apparatus and race-game apparatus, the insertion of a coin frees an operating member, movement of which causes delivery of an article and also actuates a clockwork mechanism which starts and stops a motor serving to move the coursing elements of the race-game apparatus. Article-delivery apparatus.-The operating member is a rod 7, Fig. 7, which passes through the casing of a clockwork mechanism and is released in known manner by the insertion of a coin. The rod 7, when released, is pulled out to actuate the clockwork mechanism and deliver the bottom article of pile 11 contained in a tube 10 by means of an arm 9 carried by the rod. The arm 9 passes through an opening 17 in the tube and pushes the bottom article past a spring-controlled retaining flap 14 to a delivery shoot. Returning coin in empty apparatus.-The articles 11, consisting of rolls of pastilles, are moved down the tube 10 by a pusher 12 controlled by a weight 13. When the tube 10 is nearly empty, the pusher 12 actuates a rod 18 which opens a flap 5 of the usual coin testing mechanism, so that any coin now inserted is returned. Games played with moving figures.-The clockwork actuated by the rod 7 starts an electric motor 22, Fig. 2, which drives through reduction gearing 24 a shaft 25 having pulley wheels 26 over which and corresponding pulleys 27 on a shaft 28 pass endless belts 29. The upper run of each belt 29 passes over a fixed longitudinal bar 30, Fig. 4, which guides and supports a carriage 34 carrying the figure 37 of a racehorse. Each carriage 34 has pivoted to it at 39, 38 sectors 40, 41 which form pressure cams to engage the belt 29 for moving the carriage in one direction or the other according to the direction of travel of the belt. The cams 40 have projecting pins 42 which engage cams 45 disposed on cross shafts 44 rotated by chain and pulley drives 46, 47 so that the cams 40 are raised out of engagement with the belts 29 during the forward movement of the horses at varying intervals depending on the degree of projection and angular disposition of the cams 45. Whichever horse first reaches the end of its course, it depresses an indicating arm 50, Fig. 2, which has a sector bearing a pair of contacts to engage a pair of three contacts on a second fixed sector. When the arm is depressed, the contacts are changed and the motor 22 is reversed to return the carriages 34 to their starting position where ramps 55 lift the cams 41 out of contact with the belts 29. The motor 22 is finally stopped by the clockwork mechanism, the apparatus being then ready for the insertion of another coin. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also means whereby the cams 45, on the last shaft before the arms 50, are controlled by a finger piece so that a particular cam may be arranged, if the operator is skilful, to allow a particular horse to win while stopping the other horses. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
