Abstract
478,884. Battery cages. GARNER, C. E. July 25, 1936, No. 20605. [Class 5 (ii)] A multiple cage for fowls &c. comprises a number of superposed cages A<2> with droppings receptacles O between each pair of cages, a feeding trough along the front of each cage and a continuous drip water system comprising wires Y for causing a stream of water to flow downwardly anc having bent por tions to cause drops to be formed adjacent the mouths of the feeding troughs. The drops not caught by the birds fall on lower parts of the wires and form drops at the drop-forming points of lower cages. The food troughs have flanges Ae to prevent the access of water. The droppings receptacles 0 form the roofs of lower cages and are inclined to allow droppings to be pushed in to a central space between front and back cages and fall on to an endless belt R passing over rollers operated by a crank and provided with scrapers V. The food troughs are pivoted and form gates for the cages. Cranked wires arranged above the food troughs are provided with rings which may be moved into appropriate cranked portions to indicate which fowls have laid.
