[Class 132 (ii)] [Also in Group XVIII] In apparatus for a game of skill an object is driven towards a fixed goal, above an oppositely driven band carrying obstacles which may be dodged by manipulating a handle so that the object may reach the goal. The object 221 is mounted on a sleeve 22 rotatable on a rod 20 which is fixed to a block 16 mounted on a threaded spindle 15 rotated through spiral gears 13, 14 by a motor driven pulley 12, which also drives a drum 7 and a band 9 bearing obstacles 10 in the opposite direction to the object 22<1>. A knob 26 is rigid with a rod 27 parallel to the spindle 15 and mounted on arms 29 rotatable about a centre A, which rod 27 passes through an eye 28 rigid with the sleeve 22 so that lateral movement of the object 22<1> to avoid the obstacles 10 is possible. The block 16 is moved against the action of a returning spring by the rotating spindle 15, the thread of which is engaged by an escapement lever 18 pivoted in the block 16 and connected by a link 25 to a spindle 24 which is engaged by a forked member 23 mounted on the sleeve 22 so that when the object 22<1> meets an obstacle 10, it rotates the lever 18 and allows the block to move backward a small distance under the action of the returning spring. A lever B is adapted to be rotated by means of a knob c to move the lever 18 laterally against the action of a, spring 34 out of engagement with the threaded spindle 15 so that the block is brought back to the starting position. The mechanism is screened from the player by members 4. The apparatus may be coin-freed and is preferably arranged to operate for a definite period of time. To prevent jamming after the obstacle has reached the goal, the thread of the spindle 15 is interrupted near the goal end.
