Abstract

477,989. Optical sound-recording apparatus; piezo-electric crystals. SCRUBY, B., and ROBERTS, A. J. June 5, 1936, No. 15813. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] Relates to sound - recording apparatus of the kind employing two grids, the image of one of which (5) is reflected by a vibratory mirror on to the other grid, (9), as described in Specification 325,569, [Class 40 (ii)]. According to the invention, the mirror 6 is directly attached to the rochelle crystal 29 of a piezo-electric oscillator, which is connected to the output of an amplifier for the sound to be recorded. The crystal, which bends without twisting under the influence of potential applied to tin foil layers on its opposite sides, is preferably clamped between rubber blocks at its lower end and has the mirror attached to its upper end, e.g. by wax. The Figure shows the general arrangement of the apparatus for recording on 16 mm. film, driven by a sprocket 16 and controlled by a flywheel 20.
