Abstract
477,028. Hydraulic transmission of power. BAUER, F. April 18, 1936, No. 11145. Convention date, April 27, 1935. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] A hydraulic gear consists of a clutch working at the same time as a pump, and a hydraulic motor, both being of the vane or rotary piston type, that part of the pump which is driven by clutch action being coupled with the driven part of the motor, these parts being relatively displaceable transversely to the axis of the gear to control the stroke capacity of the motor, and thus vary, the gear ratio. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the driving shaft 27 carries the eccentric member 2 of a pump, and the eccentric member 33 of a motor is adjustably keyed at 32 to the casing 1 of the pump. The pump draws liquid from a reservoir 63 and delivers it to a passage 49, distributing valves 5 being provided. When the motor member 33 is in a concentric position, the whole of the pump output passes through an air chamber 59, pipe 58, reducing valve 60, vessel 57, relief valve 61 and pipe 62 back to the reservoir. When the member 33 is set in an eccentric position, a greater or less portion of the pump output depending on the degree of eccentricity passes through the motor through a distributing valve 45 and returns to the reservoir via the pipe 58 &c. The transmission may be interrupted when required by opening a valve 70 in a byepass 69. The eccentricity of the member 33 may be adjusted manually, or automatically in accordance with the load on the driven shaft. In the latter case, a chamber 46 is connected by a passage 48 to the passage 49, and an opposite chamber 47 by passages 54, 50 and pipes 55, 56 to the vessel 57. The pressure in the passage 49 varies with the load on the driven shaft, while the pressure in the vessel 57 is constant, due to the reducing valve 60 and relief valve 61, so that the pressure in the chamber 46 varies relative to that in the chamber 47 and the eccentric member 33 is thereby adjusted. Air may escape at 66 and 71, and air-escape valves 73, 74 are provided. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the following subjectmatter. Both the pump and motor may be of the swash-plate type, the output member of the pump being connected with the driving member of the motor, means being provided for adjusting the eccentricity of the piston of the motor. The pump comprises an eccentric roller 2, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), engaged by vanes guided between bars or webs carried by the casing 1a, and embraced by rings 9, 10. Semicylindrical rotary valves 3, 4 work inside or outside apertured cylindrical valve faces 6. Radial arms 16 are arranged in a chamber 23, and the outlet pressure is regulated by a piston byepass valve 17, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), or a spring-loaded valve 18. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
