Abstract

A filling-mass for use in increasing the surface of contact between liquids and gases, such as in the drying of slurry, comprises loose metal bodies of helical shape having their free ends welded to the adjacent turns or bent towards the interiors of the bodies. The turns are so spaced as to permit contact thereof without the elastic limit of the material being exceeded. The helices may be in the form of bodies that circumscribe cylinders, truncated cones or hyperboloids.
