Abstract

475,244. Fixing flanges on tubes &c. DEUTSCHE EISENWERKE AKT. - GES. March 16, 1937, No. 7658. Convention date, May 30, 1936. [Class 83 (iv)] In a method of attaching flanges to tubes or tubular parts, the flange is applied to the tube, preferably by screwing, and is then heated so that after cooling the difference of growths of the parts caused by the change in their crystalline structure results in their being securely attached. The materials of the flange and tube are selected so that they will have different growths, e.g. a flange of refined cast iron, cast in sand, is used with a tube of ordinary centrifugally cast iron. The temperature and duration of the heating are selected to produce the maximum difference in growths, cast tubes being heated for about one hour at 700 to 950‹ C.
