Abstract

474,623. Valve generating circuits; television. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., BEDFORD, L. H., and STEVENS, W. H. May 9, 1936, No. 13155. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] A push-pull deflection voltage generator for a cathode-ray tube comprises a generator of exponential saw-tooth waves for the control of one deflector plate and an amplifier controlled from this generator, giving an output to control the other deflector plate ; the characteristic of the amplifier being such that the resultant saw-tooth voltage between the plates is approximately linear. Condenser C1, Fig. 1, is charged exponentially through resistance R1 from the 1500 volt source and is periodically discharged rapidly through the hard valve V2 which is normally biassed to cut-off by the resistance R7. Transformer windings L1, L2 are arranged to impress a positive voltage impulse on the grid when anode current flows, and a tertiary winding L3 is energized with synchronizing impulses to initiate discharges. The grid of the amplifier V3, normally biassed by the leak Rg, is fed with the saw-tooth oscillations by the potentiometer C2, C3, and a portion of the output is taken to the deflector plate PX2 through condenser CX2 from the potentiometer R3, R6. Inductance L4 compensates for stray capacities. The other deflector plate PX1 is fed through the coupling condenser CX1. A B C D, Fig. 2, represents the charging curve of C1, and CH the discharge ; the required voltage-time relationship between the plates being AE. The difference ex at any instant is shown by the curve FG and the amplifier V3 is so arranged to produce this curve of voltage-time relation on the plate PX2. According to the Provisional Specification, the input from a television radio receiver is applied to the grid of the synchronizing pentode V1, through a condenser C4. The filter R15, C15, C16 in the anode circuit separates the line and frame synchronizing impulses and causes them to appear separately across windings L3, L3<1> which are incorporated as tertiary windings of transformers in the line and frame signal generators.
