Abstract
473,358. Density separators. QUICGIN, D. A. March 10, 1936, No. 7166. [Class 23] Apparatus for extracting finely divided liquid or solid particles from vapours particularly for use in sea water evaporators comprises a series of separate curvilinear conduits arranged in a scroll like 'manner, each extending between vapour inlet and outlet connections and having a perforated plate or plates within it, with drainage means for removal of the particles. The conduits may be formed by equally spaced scroll-shaped plates 12 arranged in echelon in an annulus between a central inlet B and circumferential outlet, the plate edges being joined to discs 10, 11, to provide ducts of rectangular crosssection each of which contains a perforated plate 14 spaced from an adjacent wall by washers 30a on clamping studs 30. The ends of the duct walls are turned over the perforated plates to trap liquid which collects in a channel 19. Condensate collecting in a sump 24 in the top plate is removed by a pipe 25. In modifications, a number of perforated plates extend in zigzag fashion or tangentially across the ducts. The separator may be employed in sea-water evaporators such as described in Specification 452,595, [Group III].
