Abstract

[Class 42 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] In hollow, noiseless platens for typewriters and like machines in which the cavity of the platen is divided into a number of enclosed air spaces by transverse partitions, the light metal partitions b fit tightly the inner face of the integral hollow cylindrical body a of the platen, which is also preferably of light metal, and have no other sound conducting longitudinal connection. The partitions b may be three or more in number according to the length of the platen. The outer surface of the tube body is knurled so as to grip the rubber sheath c and to form insulating air cavities underneath it. The ends of the body are closed by removable bushes d of sound-damping material such as rubber or compressed cork or wood, to winch are secured renewable bearing bushes c.
