Abstract
468,569. Refrigerating. TENNANT, W. J.- (Kelvinator Corporation) Jan. 7, 1936, No. 582. [Class 29] Compression machines and systems.-A refrigerator cabinet is provided with a machine having an evaporator comprising an outer element 30 of relatively low heat-absorbing capacity to which refrigerant liquid is supplied through a pipe 26 for cooling the general storage space of the cabinet, and an inner element 55 having a vapour outlet pipe 27 and of greater heat-absorbing capacity for making ice connected in series with the outer element. The supply of current to the compressor motor of the machine is regulated by a switch controlled by a thermostat 85 in contact with the outer element so that frost is not deposited on the latter element at least during the period in which the machine is inoperative. The outer element consists of a U-shaped shell secured to the top of the cabinet and having hollow vertical walls formed by corrugated plates 47 and connected at their lower ends by a tube 50, and the inner element is formed of plain and corrugated U-shaped plates 59, 57 respectively. In a modification, the inner element consists of serially-connected hollow plates 105, Fig. 5.
