Abstract
468,422. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. FLEISCHEL, G. Sept. 28, 1935, No. 26881. Void. Convention date, Sept. 28, 1934. Application for addition to 420,620, [Group XXIV]. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXIV] In transmission gearing for cars there is a " release device " or test lever 21<a>, Fig. 9, for the power operation of the change-speed gearing and a separate " release device " or test lever 21<b> for the control of the main clutch, the combination being under the control of an enginedriven governor, not shown. The governor supplies a force X which shifts the test lever 21b from a contact 24<d> to let in the main clutch. This may be done through a suitable servomotor or magnetic coil. Further governor action causes the test lever 21<a> to engage a contact 23<m> which sets a servomotor going to increase the speed ratio. A manual control is imposed by way of a roller 307 which is moved along between the lever 21<a> and an overlapping reversed lever 308 which takes the thrust X of the governor. This roller 307 is operated from a pedal 48, Fig. 1, through a rod 47 which is retarded in its sliding by a brake 300 so that a balance lever 10 can close the engine throttle F before the roller 307 moves to force a gear change. A complete device is shown in Figs. 26 and 27. The governor 25 upon an engine-driven shaft 26 acts through a push bar 29 on the test lever 21<a> and through a bearing 394 on the test lever 21b. Displacement of the test lever 21<a> cause a servomotor E to turn a speed-changing shaft 81. The shaft 81 carries a cam drum 4b which operates the gear-box 4 and opens the main clutch 3 in unison during changing. The governor control 21b, which lets in the clutch 3 in starting, acts directly on a slide valve 393 controlling the admission to a servo cylinder B of oil from a pump 376 driven by the shaft 26. Instead of the lever 10 of Fig. 1, there is a lost-motion connection at 398, Fig. 26. A manual cam drum 56 adjusts stops 53 for the sliding rod 47. This rod 47, in addition to displacing the change-forcing roller 307, controls a slide throttle valve 316 which governs the speed at which the pumped-oil servomotor E effects the speed changing. There is an accumulator at 378. Displacements of the test lever 21<a> cause solenoids 208<m>, 208<d>, Fig. 27, to be alternatively excited for turning the shaft 81 one way or the other. When the coil 208<m> is excited, a lever 201 is attracted which tilts a pawl 205<m> into mesh with a ratchet 206 fast on the shaft 81, and also tilts a lever 395 which shifts a slide valve 396 of the reciprocating oil motor E. A slide 200 is thus reciprocated up and down which causes the pawl 205<m> to turn the shaft 81 the space of one ratchet tooth for each reciprocation.
