[Class 29] [Also in Group XVII] Casks for beer &c. are provided with built-in coiled tubes 25, adapted to be connected by flexible branch conduits 24<1>, 24<2>, Fig. 1, with supply and return mains 20, 21 of a cooled water circulating system, the water being cooled in a refrigerating cabinet C and circulated by a pump 87 through the coils of several casks in parallel. The convolutions of the coils are located towards the bottoms of the casks and are of such diameter as to give clearance 'for draw-off tubes 26, which carry the usual taps F and are connected to the usual gas delivery pressure main 30 by branches 29. Semicircular drain pans 181 are placed on the cask heads below the taps. The risers 35, 36 of the coils are secured in bushes 37 in the heads of the casks by nipples 45, Fig. 4, and are stiffened by guard sleeves 40 which are preferably integral with the bushes and are grooved at 54 to engage the risers. The flexible branch pipes for the cooling-water are mounted on nipples 48 secured by screwed unions 49. To compensate for the space occupied by the coils, the heads of existing wood casks may be removed and replaced by heads having the greater part of their thickness above the chime 55, Fig. 3. Metal casks, Fig. 5, may be formed with spaced double walls, made in halves welded together, and the coil risers are secured in sleeves 73 welded to the heads, which are provided with reinforcing intermediate plates 65, 66. The space between the walls may be an air space or partial vacuum, or may be filled with insulating material, and the walls may have reinforcing plates 71 between them.
