Abstract

468,178. Hand-sewing tools. GOSTKOWSKI, B. H. Nov. 3, 1936, No. 29935. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1935. [Class 112] Relates to a latchneedle for use in machines for repairing runs in fabrics. The profiled front surface of the needle body consists of a portion 6, parallel to the rear of the body, a notch 7, contained, with the exception of a negligible portion, within a circle k having the axis 4 of the latch 3 as centre and drawn tangentially to the needle hook, and a swell 8. In the open position the latch is received in its entirety in the notch and its blunt point 19 is situated between the bottom of the notch and two tangents t<1>, t<2>, drawn respectively through the axis of the latch touching the profiled surface behind the notch and through the point of intersection of the circle k with the profiled surface, touching this profiled surface near the swell 8. The tangent t<2> also cuts the needle hook. The two lines defining the edges of the latch intersect at a point s about twice the length of the latch from the axis 4, that line defining the rear edge, passing quite close to that axis. In the closed position the point of the hook enters a recess in the latch. An L-shaped spring 11, Fig. 2, opens the latch, its longer arm then contacting with the rounded end 9 of the latch, to exert a braking effect, the spring being then practically entirely contained in the needle body. The open position of the latch is limited by an abutment 12 in the recess in the needle body. The needle profile described is said to make possible a high working speed in even the finest knitting.
