Abstract
Apparatus for regenerating spent lubricating, transformer or turbine oil comprises an oil receptacle 30, Fig. 1, a removable heater 50, Fig. 5, adapted to be inserted in the receptacle and provided in its walls with vertical oil-circulation passages 51 open at the top and bottom, and a removable air-tight cover 31 carrying one or more filters 16 surrounded by a sleeve 36, an air inlet valve 37 being provided through which compressed air can be introduced into the receptacle when the cover is in position to force the oil into the sleeve 36 and inwardly through the filter or filters to an outlet pipe 35. In use, the oil is heated in the receptacle to drive off light hydrocarbons and water, the heater is removed, a purifying agent, e.g. hydrosilicate of aluminium is added, the cover secured in position, and the oil forced through the filtering device. Each filter comprises a perforated tube 16<x> secured to the cover 31 and surrounded by layers 19 of metal gauze covered by a layer 20 of cloth, paper or granular material deposited from suspension in a liquid. When several filters are employed, they may be each provided with an outlet pipe 35, or the upper ends thereof may communicate with a common outlet pipe. Specification 430,952, [Group I], is referred to. <PICT:0467777/III/1> <PICT:0467777/III/2> <PICT:0467777/III/3> According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, (1) the receptacle may be externally heated, in which case a funnel-shaped fitting, through which the oil circulates by convection, is placed mouth downward in the receptacle to prevent foaming, and (2) the removable heater may comprise a tube 44, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), containing a heating resistance and surrounded by an open-topped tube 45 provided at the bottom with holes 45a, a bimetallic strip 46 mounted at the bottom of the tube 45 being included in the heating circuit so that the circuit is broken and a signal operated at a predetermined temperature. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
