Abstract

467,385. Automatic exchange systems. TELEFONBAU UND NORMALZEIT AKT.- GES. Aug. 20, 1936, No. 22977. Convention date, Feb. 12. [Class 40 (iv)] In a system employing alternating current loop working over junctions, the repeaters at either end of the junction are arranged for leg working within the exchanges, impulses and other forward signals being sent over the a wire and backward signals being sent over the b wire. Upon seizure of the repeater U1, relay 1C energizes over the c wire and 1S transmits a calling impulse over the junction during the slow operating period of IU. Relays 2E, 2A, 2C respond and the last relay locks and connects up H, 3C, the latter seizing the selector. Impulses over the a wire are repeated by 1A, 1S over the junction and thence by 2E, 2A over the a wire to 3A. Upon reply of the called party, relay 3Y connects up K over the b wire and an impulse is sent over the junction during the slow operating period of L. Relays 1E, 1Y respond, connecting battery to the b wire, and on the relapse of 1E, 1X energizes and holds 1Y. The relapse of 3Y when, the called party hangs up, results in an impulse being sent during the release period of L, bringing about the release of 1X, 1Y and the removal of battery from the b wire. When the calling party hangs up, 1C falls back and an impulse is sent as before and 2A responds and shortcircuits 2C, whereupon 3C falls back and releases the selector. Relay K energizes over the b wire until the selector reaches normal, so that two impulses are sent back, the first operating 1Y, which opens the energizing circuit of 1C and the second disconnecting 1Y to render the repeater available. To prevent interference between impulses in the two directions over the junction, relay 1S opens the circuits of 1X, 1Y, and relay 2V controlled by 2A opens the b wire at the repeater U2. In a modification, relay L is such that its release period is greater than its operating period, so that a longer impulse is sent when the b wire at the repeater U2 is opened. This results in the energization of a slow-operating relay at the repeater U1 which disconnects 1X, 1Y.
