466,574. Making foam. CONCORDIA ELEKTRIZITATS-AKT.-GES. Nov. 29,1935, No. 33194. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1934. [Class 47 (ii)] A refining device for attachment to a foamproducing apparatus, particularly for fireextinguishing, comprises a tube a in which mixing bodies, such as balls b, are retained between perforated plates c, c<1>. The plate c<1> is slidable under control of an eccentric d, so that the balls can be pressed together and caused to occupy the entire cross-section of the tube, as shown, or can be spread out to leave a part of the tube free. By this means, the consistency of the foam can be varied. The balls may be of glass, or of indiarubber. In the latter case, reduction of the passages between the balls by compression of the balls allows very fine foam to be obtained. In a modification, a holder for the balls b is mounted on the tube a and has a closable connection therewith, so that more or less balls may be admitted to the tube so as to occupy the crosssection thereof to a variable degree.
