  • Control Of Throttle Valves Provided In The Intake System Or In The Exhaust System (AREA)

Abstract

466,164. Spray carburetters. HILVETY, G. C. S. VON. Nov. 15, 1935, No. 31714. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1934. [Class 7 (iii)] During overrunning with the throttle valve partially open the supply of fuel through a fuel nozzle is interrupted by a device comprising a pneumatic chamber having therein a diaphragm &c., one side of which is subject to atmospheric pressure and the other side to suction on the engine side of the throttle valve, the diaphragm controlling a valve to close it when the suction in the intake exceeds a predetermined value. During overrunning, suction acting through a pipe 9 displaces a diaphragm 5 in a casing 1 until a stud thereon engages the end of a rod 12 in an adjustable insulated bushing 11 thus completing an electric circuit through a spring 13, the casing 1, a conductor 13<1>, battery 14, conductor 17, magnet 16 and conductor 15 connected to the rod 12. The magnet rocks on arm 22 to displace a bar 19 through apertures in which fuel normally can flow to main and idling nozzles 18, 33, Calibrated orifices 8, 10 on either side of the diaphragm, open the casing 1 to the atmosphere. The circuit may be shunted by a signal light mounted on the dashboard. As shown, the diaphragm and the magnet are mounted in a single unit, but they may be arranged separately. Where multiple nozzles are employed, each has a valve cock and all the cocks are operated simultaneously by the bar 19. The electromagnet device may be replaced by one operated by suction. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, describes a diaphragm chamber 40, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), in which a diaphragm 3 is displaced by suction, applied through a conduit 9, to open a valve 47 normally closing a passage 51 leading to a second diaphragm chamber 52. Suction applied to this second diaphragm 53 causes it to actuate a lever 63 which closes a valve 73 in the idling conduit 71. The displacement of the diaphragm 53 closes an electric circuit including a pilot lamp 27. The diaphragm 53 and valve 73 may be incorporated in a single unit or the diaphragms 3, 53 may be replaced by pistons. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
