Abstract

464,200. Moulding rubber &c. mats. STEVENS, A. H. (Boston Woven Hose & Rubber Co.) Oct. 23, 1936, No. 28858. [Classes 70 and 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups IX and X)] Moulded stair tread mats 14 of different sizes, are produced continuously by moulding and vulcanizing into a sheet 30 of plastic material, such as rubber, several series, for example three, of repeated and uniformly spaced design units 48, cutting the sheets longitudinally by knives 54, curling the edges 68 of the sub sheets 58 by means of deflecting plates 62 and rollers 64, 66, setting the curled edges by passing through tubular jackets 70 heated by steam &c., passing the strips through a cooling chamber 72, and thereafter severing the strips midway at one of the portions 18 separating the design units, thereby producing mats of the desired length. The design units are moulded and also vulcanized upon the sheet 30 by a heated cylinder 34 engraved at 44. An endless flexible metal band passes around a portion of the cylinder 34 around rolls 38, 40, and around an adjustable tensioning roll 42.
