[Class 98 (i)] A photographic rollfilm camera or a rollfilm back has a presser member mounted to engage behind the portion of the film in exposure, a film winding device having a manually operable rotatable spindle and a film spool winding element, ar operative connectior between the spindle anc the presser member to retract the latter from the film and to permit its return at or near the commencement and end respectively of a movement of the spindle rendering an adjacent part of the film ready for exposure, and an operative connection between the spindle and the spool winding element to cause them to engage and disengage during that movement of the spindle effected intermediate the retraction and return movement of the presser member. The roll-film back is hinged at the bottom to the camera body, for example a body as described in Specification 423,035. Arms hinged to the top of the body co-operate with recesses at the top of the back to secure the latter in closed position. As shown in Fig. 6, recesses 19, 20 in the back accommodate the film spools, and a recess 21 accommodates a presser member 22 urged by springs 24 to press the film against a raised frame in the camera body. Co-operating ridges in the back and body prevent light entrance. The film-winding mechanism, Fig. 5, comprises a ratchet wheel 33 and a gear wheel 36 having projections 34, 37 engaging recesses in the spools. Ratchets 35, 38 engage the wheels 33, 36. Engaging gear 36 is gear 39 rotatable by the mutilated gear 40 on a spindle 41, the central part of which is formed as a cam 43, Fig. 6, passing through holes 45 in the sidewalls of the presser member 22. A projection 42 on gear 40 is adapted to engage a star wheel 143 engaged by a spring detent 145, and carrying a drum with externally visible numbers. Secured to the end of spindle 41 is an external crank adapted to be located in normal position by a spring click. On turning the handle, the presser member 22 is retracted, then the mutilated gear 40 engages gear 39 to rotate the take-up spool. At the end of the rotation of spindle 41 the projection 42 engages starwheel 143 to change the indication on the drum. In a modification the spindle 41 may be rotated by bevel gearing, a series of spring click devices being provided to locate the bevel gear at the appropriate positions.
