Abstract

462,513. Game apparatus. GUILLAUME, R. July 2, 1936, Nos. 18407 and 18408. Convention dates, July 31, 1935 and May 16, 1936. [Class 132 (ii)] In apparatus for simulating a race game, a fixed board, on which the course with starting, finishing &c. points are marked, is provided with a sinuous slot or slots along which objects such as model cycles, are moved by the rotation of a member or members beneath the fixed board, the connection between the models and the rotatable member(s) readily permitting the models to follow the sinuous course. In one embodiment, the movable objects, cyclists, motor cyclists, horses, boats, aeroplanes or cars 7 are carried on pins 5, Figs. 1, 2, slidably mounted in slots 6 in a rotatable plate 4, and, as the latter is rotated, the pins 5 move along a sinuous slot 10 in the fixed board 9. The plate 4 is rigid with a flywheel 3 and is driven through gearing 12, 13, 14 and a rack 16 by a spring 15 energized by pulling out the rack bar at 17, ratchet or freewheel mechanism being provided in the drive to disengage the flywheel during energization of the spring. Owing to the shape of the slot 10 the models 7 appear to approach and recede from each other, simulating a race, the winning model being that which comes to rest nearest a point P. The plate 4 may be replaced by suitable rotatable link mechanisms permitting the radial movements of the models as they move along the sinuous slot 10, and, in the case where the upper surface of the board 10 constitutes a relief map, the pins 5 are articulated so that the models may also move vertically, according to the altitude on the map. For example, each of the pins 5 may be mounted at the apex 29, Fig. 7, of a link triangle 26, the link 28 of which is slidable in a guide 32 rigid with the rod 33 rotated about the axis 2, Fig. 2. In another embodiment, Figs. 9, 11, a plurality of models 43 move round individual sinuous slots 39 in a board 9, the pieces of the board, such as 52 between the slots, being supported by bridges 53 or other similar elements. Each model 43 has a depending hook 40 engaging the slot 39 and is connected by a flexible cord 42 to a corresponding endless band 50a, 50b passing round pulleys 44a, 45a and 44b, 45b respectively, the spindle 46 being driven, for example by a mechanical motor 47 wound at 48. The device may comprise a larger number of slots 39 arranged substantially parallel, with one or more models for each slot, and the driving motor may be electrical or pneumatic. The apparatus may be coin-controlled.
