[Class 59] The end sectional liners in the drum of a ball mill are provided with means which force apart adjacent liner sections and wedge them radially into contact with an abutment. As shown applied to the discharge end of a ball mill, Figs. 4, 5, the end lining plates 24 are arranged as sectors and are maintained in position by curved, tapered keys 18 driven into curved guideways between opposed sectors, the sectors being forced radially into contact with abutments 25. The grating 19 in the discharge trunnion is formed in four sections expanded into contact with an abutment ring 15 by curved, tapered wedges 18 or by a central conical bolt or pin. The inlet end Figs. 8, 9, has sectors 24a, 24b expanded into contact with retaining rings 15a, 25 by wedges 18, and the inlet orifice comprises four sections expanded by wedges 18 into contact with the ring 15a. In Fig. 17 the sectors 24d are forced into contact with the ring 15a by a curved, tapered key 18b guided in a groove in the sector and by a curved plate 26 fixed to the channels 12 to which the drum lining plates are secured. A door plate may be attached to the end of the drum and covered by lining plates which are expanded by a key into contact with retaining ledges fixed to the perimeter of the door.
