Abstract

In tobacco-leaf stemming-machines of the kind having mechanism for forwarding the leaves past mechanism for stripping the butt ends of the leaf-stems, and a second forwarding-mechanism adapted to engage the stripped butt ends and to forward the leaves through a stripping-mechanism comprising endless stripping-members having opposed leaf-engaging runs for stripping the leaves from the stems each of the forwarding-mechanisms comprising a set of endless members having opposed runs for gripping the leaves or the stripped stem butts, the endless members of the second forwarding-mechanism travel in a plane parallel to but laterally offset from the plane of the first forwarding - mechanism, and the endless members of the leaf-stripping mechanism travel in a single plane at an inclination to and diverging from the plane of the second forwarding-mechanism. The machine described is the same as that described in Specification 458,354. Specification 416,800 also is referred to.
