Abstract

A readily dispersible colouring matter composition for incorporation in a dyebath or printing paste comprises a water-insoluble colouring matter (i.e. a dyestuff or a substance such as an azo dye component, convertible into a dyestuff on or in textile material), dextrin and a sulphonated fatty alcohol containing at least 6 carbon atoms or a salt thereof, the term " sulphonated " denoting the presence of the radicle \sYC--SO3H. The sulphonated alcohol preferably comprises 5--60 per cent of the dextrin-sulphonated alcohol mixture and the composition preferably contains 5--50 per cent of colouring matter. The compositions are especially suitable for use in colouring filaments, yarns, fabrics, felts, films, &c. made of or containing organic derivatives of cellulose. Specified colouring matters are those described in Specifications 219,349, 224,681, 227,183, 237,943, 239,470, 253,978, 263,260, 283,081, 283,253, 299,349, 300,929, 305,560, 306,981, 310,827, and 311,433, [all in Class 15 (ii)]. In examples: (1) a mixture of the sodium salt of sulphonated lauryl alcohol, dextrin and symdimethyl-1 : 4-diaminoanthraquinone is ground for 2 hours; (2) a cellulose acetate fabric is entered into an aqueous dispersion at 25--30 DEG C. of the product in (1), the temperature is gradually raised to 75 DEG C. and so maintained until the desired shade is obtained and the fabric is rinsed. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use, in place of the sulphonated alcohol or salt thereof, of other dispersing agents, such as sucroses, pectins and acids formed by boiling pectins and other polysaccharides and includes examples of mixtures of 1 - amino - 4 - hydroxyanthraquinone with dextrin and sugar or citrus pectin. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:A readily dispersible colouring matter composition comprises a water-insoluble colouring matter (i.e. a dyestuff or a substance, such as an azo dye component, convertible into a dyestuff on or in textile material), dextrin and a sulphonated fatty alcohol containing at least 6 carbon atoms or a salt thereof, the term "sulphonated" denoting the presence of the radicle \sYC--SO3H.
