Abstract

461,028. Rail and road trucks. GIBSON & SON, Ltd., J., and GIBSON, G. T. Nov. 16, 1935, No. 31781. [Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i)] In a rail or road vehicle, particularly for the transport of cattle &c., and of the kind in which means are provided for draining waste from the floor and/or adjustable platforms, a preferably closed or covered receptacle is provided for collecting and storing the liquid or refuse drained, the object being to prevent spread of disease. In the construction shown the vehicle is provided with a floor 7 sloping towards its longitudinal edges, and with a single sloping platform 13, which is supported in its operative position on longitudinal rails 12, and in its inoperative position on auxiliary rails 24 near the roof. The collecting receptacles 19 are located on each side below the floor 7, and receive drainage from the floor through apertures 18, and from the platform 13 by way of troughs 14, channels 15 in the rails 12, vertical U-shaped rails 10, lower troughs 23, apertures 16 and grooves 17. Preferably the rails 10 are arranged at spaced intervals and formed as continuous hoops, the horizontal portions 10a of which assist in supporting the roof. At the junction of the floor or platform sections, overlapping metal plates are provided to prevent escape of drainage at these points.
