Abstract

Conversion products of dyestuffs containing metal in complex union are manufactured by reacting an o-oxyazo dyestuff containing metal in complex union and free from sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups with a basic dyestuff, e.g. of the arylmethane series, containing no groups capable of being chromed and preferably free from sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups, e.g. by heating in an aqueous medium, if desired under pressure. The metal compounds of o-oxyazo dyestuffs may be made by treating the dyestuffs in acid, neutral or alkaline medium in an open vessel or under pressure, in the presence or absence of additional substances such as salts of organic or inorganic acids or the free acids, e.g. sodium formate, benzenesulphonate, naphthalenesulphonates, sodium acetate, sodium chloride, sodium sulphate, formic, acetic or tartaric acid. The products may be used for colouring masses, or solutions thereof, of the kinds enumerated in Specification 455,320, if desired with the further additions specified therein. In examples : (1) the cobalt compound of the dyestuff 4-nitro-2-aminophenol --> acetoacetic anilide is refluxed in aqueous solution with Rhodamine 6G extra; the product is dissolved in a nitrocellulose lacquer to produce an orange coating; (2) the cobalt compound of the dyestuff 4 - nitro - 2 - aminophenol --> 1 - phenyl - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone is similarly treated, and the product is similarly employed; (3) the metalliferous dyestuff of (2) is refluxed in dilute caustic soda solution with Rhodamine B extra; a solution of the product in a nitrocellulose lacquer yields a bluish-red coating; (4) the metalliferous dyestuff of (1) is refluxed in aqueous solution with Brilliant Glacier Blue; the product is dissolved in a nitrocellulose lacquer to yield yellowish-green coatings. Specification 408,492 also is referred to. The Provisional Specification comprises the manufacture of conversion products from dyestuffs in general containing metal in complex union and free from sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups. Chromium, copper, iron, cobalt, nickel, aluminium, manganese, vanadium and titanium compounds of dyestuffs of the anthraquinone, triarylmethane, azine, thiazine and oxazine series, and of natural dyestuffs, e.g. logwood and catechu, are specified. Basic dyes of the azo, thiazine, azine and oxazine series are referred to.ALSO:Masses, or solutions thereof, containing natural polymerization products such as caoutchouc, balata or guttapercha are coloured by means of the products obtained by reacting an o-oxyazo dyestuff containing metal in complex union and free from sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups with a basic dyestuff, e.g. of the arylmethane series, containing no groups capable of being chromed and preferably free from sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups. Specification 408,492 is referred to. The Provisional Specification refers also to metal compounds of dyestuffs of the anthraquinone, triarylmethane, azine, thiazine and oxazine series and of natural dyestuffs, e.g. logwood and catechin, and to basic dyes of the azo, thiazine, azine and oxazine series.
