Abstract

460,653. Colour and stereoscopic photography. GROVES, W. W. (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.) May 29, 1935, No. 15637. [Class 98 (ii)] Coloured prints on a multilayer film are produced from a set of component pictures, especially colour component pictures, by first printing the component pictures on a single intermediate lenticular or multicolour screen film and then printing the component pictures on this film on to the multilayer film. The component pictures may be printed on to a lenticular film by contact printing as described in Specification 392,987 or by projection printing, or may be printed on to a multicolour screen film by contact printing with filters, or by projection printing with filters as described in Specification 390,327. The colours on the intermediate film need not correspond with those of the original. The layers of the multilayer film are differently sensitized and the intermediate film is printed thereon through suitable filters. The layers may contain dyestuffs, or may be subsequently coloured. With films having two layers on one side of the support and one on the other, the process of the invention is applied only in respect of the two superimposed layers. In one example, the blue and green components are printed with red and blue filters respectively on to a two-colour (blue and red) screen film, which is printed by white or purple light on to the red-sensitive yellow layer and the blue-sensitive purple layer of a three-layer film. An intermediate positive of the red-component negative is printed on to the blue-green layer on the other side of the support. In another example, two stereoscopic negatives are printed on to a lenticular film, which is then printed with red and green filters on to a two-layer film having superimposed redsensitive red and blue-sensitive blue-green layers. In another example, the lenticular film of a lenticular bi-pack, Specification 395,124, is developed to a positive by the reversal process, and printed on to a lenticular film by contact. The rear film is printed with its image layer towards the sensitive layer of the intermediate film. The intermediate film is printed by contact on to a multilayer film similar to that of the first example, using red or yellow and blue or blue-green filters. During printing, the lenticular film may be curved, or a lens may be arranged against the lenticular surface. In a modification, an intermediate multicolour screen film may be used, the printing being as described in Specification 353,121.
