Abstract

460,579. Discharge apparatus. SZEGHO, C., LANCE, T. M. C., and BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd. July 29, 1935, No. 21484. [Class 39 (i)] Electrons released from a photo-electric surface by an optical image thrown thereon are accelerated and focused upon a fluorescent screen so as to produce an image on the screen. The fluorescent material may be deposited on the anode and the focusing field may be electrostatic or electromagnetic, for example a solenoid surrounding the tube. Or the anode may be ring-shaped and the fluorescent material deposited on the end-wall of the tube. In another form, the photoelectric screen 1 consists of or contains a secondary electron emitting material and the fluorescent screen 6 is similarly constructed or consists of an interlaced mosaic of fluorescent and secondary emitting substances. A ring-shaped anode 8 and focusing coil 7 are provided and an alternating potential is maintained on the electrodes 1 and 6 by a source 9. In another modification, successive secondary emitting electrodes of wire-mesh or reflecting construction, with a single or successive magnetic focusing coils, may be arranged in the path between electrodes 1 and 6. A succession of tubes may be arranged in cascade. The photo-electric material may be active at wavelengths different from those emitted by the fluorescent screen. Specification 444,998 is referred to.
