Abstract

Oxidized ores are rendered amenable to flotation by treating with one or more complex polyacids of the metals tin, tungsten, vanadium, germanium, and molybdenum, or with one or more soluble salts of these acids. The ores are conditioned prior to flotation in a solution of the acids or salts, the solution being preferably made slightly acid or alkaline to promote hydrolysis. Depressing agents, collecting agents, and frothing agents are then added and the pulp subjected to flotation. In examples an oxidized chromium ore is conditioned in an alkaline solution of ammonium molybdate for 40 minutes and then floated with water glass as depressor, oleic acid and aerofloat as collectors and pine oil as frother; an oxidized manganese ore is conditioned with sodium stannate and sodium vanadate, quebracho bark is added as a depressor, and the floating effected at 35 DEG C., with stearic acid and amyl xanthate as collectors and terpineol as frother; a tin ore is conditioned at 30 DEG C. with an acid solution of tungstic acid and floated with sodium palmitate and cresol. The treatment of oxidized ores of chromium, manganese, cobalt, copper, uranium, titanium, tin, tungsten, and vanadium is referred to.
