Abstract
459,899. Endless-belt conveyers; jigging-conveyers; shoots. INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION, Ltd., and DAVIDSON, G. W., Aldwych House, Aldwych, London. July 23, 1935, No. 20916. [Class 78 (i)] In apparatus for loading coal &c. into wagons of the conveyer or shoot type in which the discharge end of the conveyer &c. is displaceable upwardly and downwardly, means is provided for lowering the discharge end of the conveyer or shoot and automatically stopping the latter when a part of the wagon or any material therein makes contact with and actuates a member on and relatively movable to the shoot, or at a predetermined fixed position in the event of such contact not taking place, and for auto. matically and intermittently adjusting the height of the discharge end while the material is being discharged. The boom 5, Fig. 1, of an endless-belt conveyer 2 is arranged to pivot about the axis of the drum 4, and its free end is raised and lowered by a cable 6 attached to winding mechanism actuated by a motor 8. The fixed structure 10 supporting the hoisting mechanism carries also limit switches 11, 12 which in conjunction with switches 13, 18, 19 and 21 on the boom control the actuation of the motor 8. The switches 12, 13 are arranged to be actuated by the boom when the latter reaches its lowest and highest working positions, respectively. The switch 11 is actuated by the boom to stop the hoisting movement when the boom reaches the stowing position. The switches 18, 19 are actuated by a bar 17 mounted resiliently on the underside of the boom. The switch 21 is actuated by a roller 22 mounted on a lever 23, the lower end of which carries a member 25. If the boom is in its highest loading position, and the conveyer clutch is engaged and a starting switch actuated, the circuit of a " lower " starting contactor for the motor 8 is closed, and the boom is lowered. This movement continues until the bar 17 strikes either the side or bottom of the wagon, or any material therein, and opens one or each of the switches 18, 19 to stop the motor. The material discharged by the conveyer forms a heap and eventually displaces the member 25 to close the switch 21 which is in the circuit of a " hoist " motor contactor. The boom thereupon rises until the member 25 is returned by spring control or gravity sufficiently far towards its original position to permit the switch 21 to open. The hoisting action then ceases, and the procedure is repeated until the boom reaches the position in which the switch 13 is opened to put the switch 21 out of action, to stop the conveyer, and to close the switch 12 to cause lowering. The necessary movement of the wagon may be effected by hand or automatically by a ram 53, Fig. 4, driven through rack-and-pinion mechanism by a motor 55. Catch plates 51, 52 on the ram engage an axle of the wagon. In a modification, the wagon may be reciprocated continuously. The conveyer may be replaced by a tubular shoot 57, Fig. 4, which is fed by a conveyer 60 and is constructed to operate in the manner described in Specification 444,116. The shoot is raised and lowered by winding gear 58 and is counterbalanced by a weight 59. Upper and lower limit switches HL, LL, respectively, are arranged on a fixed structure and the shoot, and are actuated by members on the shoot and structure. The discharge opening of the shoot is controlled by a gate which is actuated by a motor 66 controlled by a float switch 65 and a pad switch PS in the side 57a of the shoot.
