Abstract
459,523. Priming pumps. BOSCH AKT.- GES., R., 4, Militõrstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. July 9, 1935, No. 19556. Convention date, July 21, 1934. [Class 102 (i)] In a fuel-injection system for an automobile in which the fuel-injection pump is supplied by a feed pump through a filter, a valve is provided between the filter and the fuelinjection pump in order to prevent draining of the system if the main tank becomes empty. The filter e, Fig. 2, is supplied by the feed pump and discharges to the injection pump through a pipe g provided with a check valve m loaded by a spring n. The valve can be opened mechanically at starting by means of a rod s and a bell-crank lever r carrying a pin g which engages a slot p in the valve stem. Premature closing of the valve may be prevented by means of a dashpot, or by a device operated by the fuel pressure. Excess pressure in the filter e opens a ball valve u permitting escape of fuel back to the tank. In a modification, shown in Fig. 4, the filter e is supplied by a pipe d and discharges through a pipe g controlled by a float valve v, w.
