Abstract

459,313. Kinematographic targets. OFFICE GENERAL DE LA CINEMATOGRAPHIE FRANCAISE, and CHOLLAT, H., 39, Avenue Victor - Hugo, Paris. July 29, 1935, No. 21507. [Class 20 (i)] [See also Group XVI] A shooting booth comprises a casing 27 provided with an iron plate 16 to receive the impact of bullets and a moving screen 20 on which animated pictures are projected, the screen being wound alternately from one drum 7 to another drum 1 over rollers 28, 5, 4, 31, 32, 3, 2, 33. A supporting sheet 13 is wound very slowly from a drum 34 on to a second drum 35. The supporting sheet may be located between the runs of the screen sheet, as shown, or behind both runs. The impact of a bullet on the plate 16 may, through a vibrator coupled to the plate, or through a microphone responsive only to detonation, effect a stoppage of the picture film and of the screen, to show a stationary image registering the effect of the shot. The drums 1, 7 may be driven by an electric motor 9 driving a disc 36 through worm-gearing 10, the disc having a crank-pin 37 coupled by links 38, 41 to arms 40, 42 which are thereby oscillated about the drum centres. Pawls 44, 45 pivoted on the arms 40, 42 engage alternately with ratchet wheels 51, 50 on the drum shafts the engagement of the pawls being governed by a cam 60 mounted on a fixed pivot 59 and carrying an arm 58 coupled by a spring 55 to a lever 53 having a roller 52 which bears on the surface of the screen paper being wound on the winding drum. On completion of winding, the spring 55 moves over-centre and swings the arm 58 and hence the cam 60, so that one pawl is engaged and the other disengaged thus reversing the direction of motion of the screen. The lever 53 may also be provided with a link 65 actuating a ratchet mechanism (not shown), for advancing the roll 35 on which the supporting sheet is wound. An automatic reversing mechanism may also be fitted for the rolls of the supporting sheet. The drums 1, 7 wind at slightly different rates owing to the pitch of the teeth on the ratchet wheels 50, 51 having a different ratio to the stroke of the pawls. In a modification, an arm carries a toothed wheel driven through a ratchet mechanism by an electric motor, and adapted to drive the drums alternately. In a further modification, the electric motor is reversible and is controlled bv a switch actuated by a roller moving on the surface of the rolls of paper, the motor driving the drums through one-way driving devices so that only one drum at a time is driven.
