459,267. Ramps for loading road vehicles on rail vehicles. TRUCK & TRACTOR APPLIANCE CO. (MANCHESTER), Ltd., Richmond Road, Trafford Park, Lancashire.-(Kutsukian, F.; 3, Rue Malakoff, Paris) June 13, 1936, No. 16516. [Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] [See also Group XXXII] A system of road- and-rail transport comprises a road vehicle 1 of the articulated semitrailer type which can be readily detached from its tractor 11, a rail vehicle 5 having means for securing the road vehicle thereon, and a wheeled ramp 6 having a convex runway surface up which the road vehicle is propelled on to the rail vehicle. The convex surface of the ramp ensures that the upper end is horizontal and allows the tractor to be readily disconnected from the trailer at 3. The trailer 1 has normal road wheels 2 and supporting wheels 4 which are lowered when the tractor is disconnected from the trailer. The means for securing the trailer comprise wheel chocks 16 and ropes 17 secured at their ends to the rail vehicle and passing over rods 20 on the trailer which allow the trailer a little freedom. Longitudinal guide ways are provided on the rail vehicle between which the trailer wheels run.
