Abstract

458,564. Thermionic valves; circuits. TOULON, P. M. G., 39, Rue Carpeaux, Puteaux, Seine, France. May 29, 1936, No. 15276. Convention date, May 31, 1935. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] A valve comprises two or more interleaved control electrodes traversed by the same electron stream and two or more interleaved collecting electrodes. The electrodes may be pairs of intertwined spirals, and in an amplifying arrangement a push-pull input is applied across the control electrodes, causing deflection of the beam, after preliminary acceleration, portions of the beam falling on one or other of the anodes, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a modified tube, giving two stages of amplification, Fig. 6 (not shown), a coil across the anodes is coupled to a tuned circuit connected to a grid behind the anodes, and the output is taken from a plate behind this grid. In a heterodyne circuit, Fig. 5, a tuned circuit 32 across the deflecting electrodes 28, 29 is coupled to a coil 33 across the anodes 35, 36 and the signal is applied at 41. The intermediate frequency coil 39 is arranged in the lead to a final plate 38 arranged behind the grid 37 which is connected by a condenser 44 to the anode 36 and to a tuned circuit 43. Fig. 7 shows a complete receiving circuit. The signal is applied to the control electrodes 77, 78, and an amplified current appears in the circuit 100. The control electrodes 82, 83 and anodes 84, 85, together with coils 104 and 105, form the heterodyne oscillator and intermediatefrequency energy is supplied to the grid 86. The electrodes 87, 88, 89, 90 form an intermediate-frequency amplifier coupled to the detection circuit 110. The first low-frequency amplifier is formed by the electrodes 92, 93, 94, 95 and the second by the grid 97 and the output plate 99. Screens 96, 98 and 113 are provided.
