Abstract
457,776. Two-way transmission. GIULI, I. DE, OSTI, A. L., SANNIO, L., and TOMELLINI, L., 46, Via Calabria, Rome. June 4, 1935, No. 16119. Convention date, June 2, 1934. [Class 40 (iv)] [See also Group XL] In duplex telephony or duplex A.C. or D.C. telegraphy employing a Wheatstone bridge, the artificial line does not match the natural line, and the mismatch is compensated by combining in the receiver the effects of voltages differing in phase and derived from a number of points in the artificial line. In this way the receiving diagonal is dissociated from the transmitting diagonal for all the Fourier components of a signal, Thus an artificial line b, comprising resistance and capacity only may be used with a cable I loaded with distributed inductance, and the unbalance currents in the receiving diagonal A are neutralized by means of currents derived from points D, E, F, of the artificial line through amplifiers M, N, P. These compensating currents are applied to separate coils in the relay Q in such a sense as to neutralize the current derived from the diagonal A. The resistance of each section of the artificial line is made proportional to the wave-length of the component to be collected from that section. The relay Q can be replaced, by means of a multipole switch, by a test set, Fig. 2 (not shown), so that the effects of the components can be observed separately and in combination. In practice the amplifier A comprises resistancecoupled valves fed through altering devices consisting of condensers and rejector circuits shunted by resistance and through a transformer primary of which is shunted by resistance and inductance while its secondary is shunted by resistance, Fig. 3 (not shown).
