Abstract
456,680. Conduits. YOUNG, E. M., and PICKETT, H., Unity Works, Welwyn Garden City. July 10, 1935, No. 19758. [Class 36] [See also Groups X and XI] Means for heating a room comprises the combination of an electric radiator 21 and a skirting of the room, such skirting consisting of a front plate 14, which is seated at its upper edge against a rail 10 and is removable from place either in its entirety or in sectional parts without disturbance of the rail, an enclosure being provided behind the plate for the reception of the radiator 21 which is adapted to direct heat on to the back of the plate. The rail or moulding 10, Fig. 1, is secured in place by screws or the like passing through holes 11 in the moulding into the wall. The plate 14 is held at the top by certain of the screws which secure the moulding in position, and at the lower edge by screws passing through the plate and distance pieces 18 into wood insets 17 in the wall. The lower edge of the plate may, alternatively, be secured to a metal moulding. A layer 20 of heat-insulating material may be arranged against the wall inside the enclosure, and the electric heater 21 is mounted on the wall or on the inner side of the plate 14. A horizontal partition 22 of heat-insulating material may be arranged below the heater 21 to form a duct 23 for electric cables. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the upper edge of the plate 14a engages a channel 24 provided on the moulding 10, and the lower edge 14a is inwardly bent and held in position by a lower moulding 26 which is secured by screws passing through distance pieces 27 into wood insets 17. Electric con duits 28 extend from the duct 23 to an electric socket connector 29 mounted on the inner side of the plate 14a, and a plug connector 29a is arranged on the front of the plate. The front plate may be provided along its lower edge with a groove or channel formed by a shaped strip 30, Fig. 4, which engages over the upturned lip 31 of a metal channel strip 33 secured to the wall. Alternatively, the lip 31 comprises a channel to receive the lower edge of the plate 14. The upwardlyextending part 34 of the strip 33 may be dispensed with, in which case the strip is secured to the floor. The moulding 10 may be provided with an upwardly-projecting part 10a adapted to be secured to the wall and to be covered by the wall plaster or other surfacing 35 as shown in Fig. 4. In another construction, the plate 14 is secured removably to the rail at its upper portion, and its lower edge is directly connected, such as by screws, to that part of the wall close to the floor. In a further modification, the moulding 10 is replaced by an angle iron strip 10b, Fig. 6 which is bolted to the wall and has wood seating-blocks 10c supported thereon. The front plate 14 is secured by screws 39 passing into the blocks 10c and a beading 40 serves to hide the joint between the plate 14 and rail 10b. Instead of arranging the whole of the plate to be removable, relatively short sections only, arranged at spaced intervals, may be so mounted. The heating elements, in such an arrangement are adapted to be threaded into position along the back of the fixed portions of the plate through the opening provided by a removable section. Electric switches may be mounted on the front plate.
