Abstract

455,403. Winding and measuring fabrics. LISTER, M., 40, Souberie Avenue, Letchworth, Hertfordshire. Nov. 11, 1935, No. 31166. [Class 42 (ii)] A fabric &c. is drawn from a container 1 through an opening 2 and wound on a board 7, clutched to a shaft 6 on which is a drum 14. A measuring tape 15 has one end attached to the drum 14 and the other end to a second drum 17 and passes over a roller 16 where it is visible through a window 27 in the case 5 which encloses the drums 14, 17, &c. The table 7 is provided with a scale 26 and is slotted at 21 leaving a flexible side 22 which when depressed allows the wound roll of fabric to be easily removed. The bearing 9 for the outer end of the shaft 6 can be moved out of the way when a roll of fabric is to be removed. The drums 14, 17 are braked by spring shoes 18. The tape can be rewound on the drum 17 by means of a handle 28. A number of charts, Fig. 2, one for each thickness of fabric, gives the position on the scale 26 for every length to be measured, to which the end of the fabric must be set at starting and also a starting point, e.g. Tape 1 to which the tape must be moved before the measuring operation is commenced. The fabric can be held taut in a groove 4 by a bar 27 and cut by a cutter 30 sliding on the bar. According to the Provisional Specification a set of vernier scales on the table replaces the scale 26 and charts, Fig. 2. Specification 438,943 is referred to.
