[Class 29] [See also Group XXX] Bars of ice-cream &c. are conveyed through a hardening chamber on flexible carriers suspended from inclined guides 24, Fig. 2, down which they slide from one end of the chamber to the other. Each carrier comprises bar supports 10 linked together and provided with rollers 14, Fig. 6, adapted to be moved over tracks 21 on the chamber and engaged by sprocket wheels 23, 28 mounted on interconnected shafts 22, 27 disposed adjacent the inlet and outlet openings respectively in the chamber. The rear support of each carrier has rollers 16 adapted to engage with the tracks 24, while the front support is provided with hooks 18, Fig. 8, which may be engaged over the shafts 19 of the rollers of the preceding carrier. In operation, the carriers are arranged on the tracks 21 and charged, either mechanically or by hand, with the ice-cream bars and drawn along by the sprocket wheels 23 over which they pass into the chamber in a depending position, each carrier automatically disengages itself from the hooks of the following carrier and slides gradually down the guides until it reaches the transfer discs 29, Fig. 4, mounted on the ends of the shaft 27. The discs are formed with notches 30 with which the carrier rollers 16 engage, and the carriers are thus transferred in turn from the chamber to the sprocket wheels 28 by which they are discharged on to tracks 32. A catch 34 mounted on an arm 33 operated by an eccentric 36 on the shaft 27 prevents more than one carrier from passing to the discs at a time. During their passage through the chamber, the bars are subjected to transverse currents of air circulated by fans 46, Fig. 12, over finned cooling coils 45.
