Abstract
452,043. Photographic plates, films, etc.; photographic developers. KENDALL, J. D., 23, Roden Street, Ilford, Essex. Feb. 16, 1935, No. 5078. [Class 98 (ii)] Photographic materials employing gelatin silver halide emulsions are stabilized by treating the material with 2-mercapto-4- hydroxy-pyrimidine or one of its alkyl, aralkyl or aryl substitution derivatives or a tautomeric compound, or an alkali metal or ammonium salt thereof. The material may be bathed in a solution containing the stabilizing compound, or the stabilizing compound may be incorporated in the emulsion in the support in an intermediate layer between the emulsion and the support, such as the baryta coating used in photographic papers, in a protective layer over the emulsion, or in the wrapping material. Compounds referred to are 6- methyl-2-mercapto-4-hydroxy-pyrimidine, 5.6- benz-2-mercapto-4-hydroxy-pyrimidine and keto-tetrahydro-thio-pyrimidines. Silver chloride, bromide, chlorobromide and iodobromide emulsions are referred to. The Provisional Specification refers also to the incorporation of these compounds in the developer.
