[Class 132 (ii)] In a football or like sports ball one section of the outer casing is made in two layers. A cut 2 is made in the upper layer 1 and the lower layer 3 is cut away at 4 to form a tongue 5 the free edge of which remote from the cut 2 is recessed at 6. The tongue 5 is preferably reinforced, for example, by doubling it. When the bladder 7 is introduced, the inflating neck 8 is located in the recess 6 and extends through the cut 2, and during inflation pressure is exerted on the outer cover as indicated by the arrow 9 to prevent the squeezing of the neck. After inflation the neck is tied by a string 10 and pushed between the layers 1, 3, into the space 4 the string 10 being slipped between the layers 1, 2, to facilitate withdrawal of the neck. The invention is also applicable to an outer cover in which the bladder is inserted between a free edge of the upper and lower layers.
