Abstract

451,057. Knitting-machines. BENTLEY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., DEANS, F. E., MANGER, C. F., and BUSWELL, G. A., New Bridge Street, Leicester. March 14, 1935, No. 7941. Addition to 400,623. [Class 74 (ii)] In a circular rib knitting-machine as claimed in Claim three of the parent Specification and wherein at the additional feed point a second yarn can be fed to one or both sets of needles simultaneously with the feeding of yarn to the needles at the main feed point to produce a fabric composed of two helices of yarn, the operating mechanism for the additional yarn feeding and associated devices moves in a series of steps separated by pauses into a number of sections under the action of control means, and a correcting mechanism is provided for effecting the return of the operating mechanism to its initial position should the proper relationship of the operating mechanism and control means have been accidentally disturbed. As shown, the stitch cam 14, the feeders 220, 268 for the draw and ordinary threads, and the trapper and cutter devices 238, 284 at the additional feed point are controlled by cams 294, 234, 280 256, 292 respectively on the shaft 94 driven by a clawker 102 and a pin wheel 100 having eighteen pins. The shaft 94 makes a complete revolution during the knitting of each sock &c. The feeder 268 is pivoted at 500 and guided by a cam 504 so as to pass over the feeder 220. Between the long butt and short butt needles are a few medium length butt needles which cause the ends of the second yarn to be anchored in the fabric at the main feed position. The clawker 102 is operated by a lever 106 and push rod 114 from a double cam 112 running at cylinder speed. The rod 114 slides in an arm 118 on a shaft 120 which can be turned to move the rod 114 into or out of line with the cam 112, and the arm can be locked in the former position by a bell-crank 142, the other arm of which carries a block 138 engaging with notches 136 in the periphery of the pin wheel 100. The rod 114 is moved into operative position by a push rod 130 and a cam 124 on the control drum 126, and the shaft 94 will be rotated by the clawker 102 in a series of steps until the block 138 drops into the next notch 136. When a new sock &c. is commenced a cam 530 on the drum 126 pushes a correcting rod 512 to the left as shown in Fig. 3. Should the shaft 94 not be in its starting position, a cam 520 thereon through a lever 516 will raise one end of the rod 512 so that a block 524 thereon will engage an arm .522 on the shaft 120 and move the push rod 114 into the path of the cam 112. The shaft 94 will then be rotated until the cam 520 lets the block 524 drop and the block 138 enters the proper notch 136 in the wheel 100. Specification 416,351 is referred to.
